Turkish Parliament Speaker Numan Kurtulmuş has been engaging in intensive diplomatic efforts to halt Israel’s attacks on Gaza and Palestinian territories and to mobilize the international community. Since the onset of Israeli attacks on October 7, 2023, Kurtulmuş has held discussions with approximately 200 individuals, including heads of state, government leaders, and parliamentary speakers.
Kurtulmuş has continuously brought Gaza to the forefront during his visits and meetings, providing strong support to Turkey’s international diplomacy efforts. He highlighted the attacks on Gaza at the G20 Parliamentary Speakers’ Summit held in India from October 12-14, 2023, and at numerous ongoing international meetings.
From October 22-24, 2023, Kurtulmuş participated in the Second Parliamentary Summit of the Crimea Platform in the Czech Republic and shared his views on Gaza during an official visit to Bosnia and Herzegovina from November 2-4, 2023. In his speech at the International University of Sarajevo, he referenced major atrocities in modern history, including Auschwitz and Srebrenica, emphasizing the need for legal action against the Gaza attacks in international criminal court.
Additionally, Kurtulmuş called for support for Gaza at the 9th MIKTA Parliamentary Speakers’ Meeting in Indonesia from November 19-22, 2023, and during visits to various countries. He called for collaboration to secure an immediate ceasefire and the delivery of humanitarian aid to Gaza. His diplomatic endeavors included visits to Kuwait, Bahrain, the United Arab Emirates, Azerbaijan, Côte d’Ivoire, Mexico, Cuba, Kazakhstan, and Uzbekistan.
Kurtulmuş has also discussed the Gaza and Palestine issue with leaders visiting Turkey. He emphasized the necessity of establishing an independent Palestinian state within the vision of a two-state solution and underscored that the 1967 borders should be the basis for Middle East peace.
