Turkish MP Fuat Oktay Meets Icelandic Parliament Foreign Affairs Committee Head to Strengthen Bilateral Relations

AK Party Ankara MP Fuat Oktay met with Dilja Mist Einarsdottir, Head of the Icelandic Parliament’s Foreign Affairs Committee, and her accompanying parliamentary delegation during their visit to Turkey, invited by the Foreign Affairs Committee of the Grand National Assembly of Turkey (TBMM). The discussions focused on enhancing bilateral relations and deepening cooperation between Iceland and Turkey.

Oktay conveyed Turkey’s views on halting Israel’s occupation activities and massacres in Palestine, ensuring a permanent ceasefire, and providing uninterrupted humanitarian aid to Gaza. He also reiterated their mutual support for the two-state solution model.

Emphasizing the importance of determination and cooperation in combating terrorism, Oktay underlined the necessity of fighting against all terrorist organizations without discrimination and highlighted Turkey’s sensitivities and expectations in this regard.

Oktay also reaffirmed Turkey’s support for Ukraine’s sovereignty, independence, and territorial integrity since the annexation of Crimea in 2014. He shared Turkey’s efforts to bring the parties to the negotiating table to end the Ukraine-Russia war.

Other topics discussed during the meeting included bilateral, regional, and global issues such as relations with the European Union, strengthening ties between the two parliaments, facilitating direct flights, migration, and collaboration in the Arctic region.
