Turkish Health Minister Warns Against Risky Mushroom Gathering During Summer
Turkish Health Minister, Fahrettin Koca, has issued a warning to citizens about the significant health risks associated with the careless collection of mushrooms during the summer months. In a recent statement, Minister Koca emphasized that consuming such mushrooms can impact the central nervous system and, in some cases, cause serious issues in the gastrointestinal system.
Minister Koca highlighted that mushroom poisoning commonly presents symptoms such as severe vomiting, diarrhea, and liver toxicity. He underscored that these types of poisoning can lead to severe health problems, sometimes requiring liver transplants.
Koca urged citizens to avoid consuming mushrooms collected from natural habitats and instead opt for mushrooms purchased from reliable sources known to be safe. He stressed the importance of being informed and acting wisely to prevent mushroom poisoning.
The minister’s warnings come as interest in mushroom consumption increases with the approaching summer season. Health authorities also note that mushrooms gathered from the wild are not reliable and that expert consultation is mandatory before consumption.
