Turkish and Icelandic Parliament Members Discuss Bilateral Relations and Global Issues

The AK Party Ankara Deputy Fuat Oktay met with the Chairman of the Foreign Affairs Committee of the Icelandic Parliament Dilja Mist Einarsdottir and her accompanying parliamentary delegation upon the invitation of the Turkish Parliament’s Foreign Affairs Committee.

During the meeting, they discussed the current state of bilateral relations between Iceland and Turkey and potential steps to deepen these ties. Topics included halting Israel’s systematic occupation and massacres in Palestine, achieving a lasting ceasefire, and ensuring uninterrupted humanitarian aid to Gaza. Both parties reaffirmed their mutual support for a two-state solution to the Israeli-Palestinian conflict. They also emphasized the importance of determination and cooperation in the fight against terrorism, stressing the need to continue this struggle without discrimination between terrorist organizations.

Turkey’s support for Ukraine’s sovereignty, independence, and territorial integrity since the 2014 Crimean occupation was highlighted, and efforts to bring parties to the negotiation table to end the Ukraine-Russia war were also discussed.

Other topics included relations with the European Union, enhancing inter-parliamentary relations, direct flights, migration issues, and cooperation in the Arctic region. Both sides exchanged views on various bilateral, regional, and global issues.
