Turkish Interior Minister Ali Yerlikaya has announced the successful completion of the GÜRZ-7 Operation, which led to the neutralization of Seyran Çomak, codenamed Bervar, a top PKK terrorist who was on the country’s “red list” for most-wanted terrorists. Çomak, who held the titles of “Serhat Province Commander” and “YJA-STAR leader,” was neutralized in the Doğubayazıt countryside of Ağrı province.
Minister Yerlikaya emphasized their determination to eradicate terrorism from the sacred lands of the nation entirely.
29 Martyrs Avenged
Seyran Çomak was responsible for orchestrating 16 attacks resulting in the martyrdom of 28 security personnel and one civilian, and the wounding of 72 security officers and two civilians. Çomak, who was on the Ministry of Interior’s red list, was confirmed dead in a combat operation while armed.
Identity Confirmed Through DNA Testing
The identity of Çomak was verified through DNA testing following the operation. Çomak had previously been considered deceased based on a 2018 statement from a captured terrorist operative. The DNA test confirmed his identity after the recent armed conflict in Ağrı’s Doğubayazıt countryside.
Air and Ground Support for Operation
The operation was coordinated by the Gendarmerie General Command Intelligence Directorate and the Counter-Terrorism Department, under the command of the Security Corps Command. The Ağrı Provincial Gendarmerie Command gathered the intelligence that led to the operation, which was supported by Turkish Air Force jets, ATAK helicopters, and UAVs from both the Gendarmerie and Land Forces. Special units including the Gendarmerie Special Operations (JÖH), Commandos, and Security Guard Teams participated in the operation.

Minister Ali Yerlikaya commended the Air Force, Land Forces, Gendarmerie, and Security Guards involved in the operation, stating, “The blood of our martyrs has not been left unavenged.” He reaffirmed their unwavering commitment to continue the fight against terrorism until every last terrorist is neutralized.
