Turkish and Irish Officials Discuss Regional Issues in Ankara

AK Party Ankara Deputy Fuat Oktay announced that the Turkish Grand National Assembly’s Foreign Affairs Commission met with Charles Flanagan, Chair of the Joint Committee on Foreign Affairs and Defence of the Irish House of Representatives, and his parliamentary delegation.

Oktay stated that during the meeting, held at the historic Parliament building, they discussed Israel’s attacks on Palestinian civilians and the urgent need to halt these assaults. They evaluated the steps the international community could take to ensure a ceasefire, support a two-state solution, and deliver humanitarian aid to Gaza.

The meeting also highlighted the importance of Turkey’s initiatives on resolving regional and global issues, such as the Israeli-Palestinian conflict and the war in Ukraine. The Irish delegation reaffirmed their support for Turkey’s EU membership process and expressed openness to all sorts of cooperation on this matter, while the Turkish side reiterated their sincere and objective expectations from the EU.

Furthermore, it was noted that bilateral relations were thoroughly reviewed. There was consensus on increasing trade volume, assessing the potential of economic relations, and deepening cooperation in fields such as tourism, health, technology, housing, and infrastructure construction. The necessity for advancing inter-parliamentary relations and dialogue on a structural basis was also emphasized.
