Turkey’s Transportation and Infrastructure Failures Spotlighted Post-Earthquake

On February 6, 2023, earthquakes rocked various provinces in Turkey, leading to an extensive review that revealed significant shortcomings in the country’s transportation and infrastructure sectors.

**Identified Issues**

Research conducted after the earthquakes identified extensive damage to the cities’ transportation networks, with some roads rendered unusable and overall infrastructure deemed critically inadequate. These issues have severely impacted both emergency management and the daily lives of residents.

**Steps Taken**

In response to these findings, Republican People’s Party (CHP) Member of Parliament Cem Avşar posed questions to Minister of Transport and Infrastructure, Abdulkadir Uraloğlu. Avşar inquired about the steps being taken to address the deficiencies in transportation and infrastructure.

Authorities are expected to provide a swift response to these queries.
