Turkey, Romania, Bulgaria Form MCM BLACK SEA Task Group to Counter Mine Threats

MCM BLACK SEA Task Group Formed to Combat Mine Threats in the Black Sea

ISTANBUL — In a significant move to enhance maritime security, Turkey, Romania, and Bulgaria have launched a collaborative initiative known as the “Triple Initiative.” This effort has led to the establishment of the Mine Countermeasures Black Sea (MCM BLACK SEA) Task Group, which aims to address and mitigate the mine threats in the Black Sea region.

On July 1, 2024, the MCM BLACK SEA Committee Meeting and Signing Ceremony took place in Istanbul. The event saw the participation of high-ranking naval officials, including Admiral Ercüment Tatlıoğlu of the Turkish Naval Forces, Vice Admiral Mihai Panait of the Romanian Naval Forces, and Rear Admiral Kiril Yordanov Mihaylov of the Bulgarian Naval Forces.

This joint undertaking is poised to significantly improve the safety and security of maritime operations in the strategically vital Black Sea.
