The U.S. Ambassador to Ankara, Jeff Flake, has announced that Turkey has met its NATO defense spending targets for the first time. Flake remarked, “It is wonderful to witness this historic moment as Turkey achieves its NATO defense spending goal for the first time. Thank you to the Ministry of Defense for this fantastic partnership.”

The U.S. Department of State’s Bureau of European and Eurasian Affairs revealed that Turkey, France, Montenegro, and Norway have achieved the target of allocating 2% of their Gross Domestic Product (GDP) to defense spending this year. A representative of the Bureau stated, “With a record number of allies meeting or exceeding the 2% GDP defense spending target, NATO has effectively become stronger than ever.”

This development has further strengthened the solidarity and cooperation among NATO members in terms of defense expenditures. Turkey’s success in meeting this significant target has contributed to bolstering the partnership and security ties within NATO.

Statements made by the U.S. Embassy in Ankara have once again highlighted the importance of ongoing cooperation among NATO allies.
