On July 23, 2024, Speaker of the Turkish Grand National Assembly, Numan Kurtulmuş, delivered significant remarks at the “International Cyprus Symposium on the 50th Anniversary of the Cyprus Peace Operation.” The event took place at Istanbul University.
Kurtulmuş emphasized the historical significance of the Cyprus Peace Operation, highlighting that the intervention was crucial for the security and freedom of the Turkish Cypriot community. He stressed that both Turkey and the Turkish Cypriot community made significant sacrifices to ensure peace and stability during this process. Kurtulmuş called on the international community to show greater sensitivity towards the Cyprus issue.
The symposium saw the participation of academics, diplomats, and politicians from both Turkey and Cyprus. Participants examined the Cyprus issue and its potential solutions from various perspectives, discussing the necessary steps to be taken in the future.
