Romanian Prime Minister Ciolacu Meets Turkish President Erdoğan in Ankara: Strategic Cooperation Council Established

Ankara – Romanian Prime Minister Marcel Ciolacu and his delegation were hosted by Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdoğan. During the bilateral meeting, Erdoğan announced the approval of the establishment of the Turkey-Romania High-Level Strategic Cooperation Council. This development marks a significant milestone in relations between the two countries.

Erdoğan highlighted that the bilateral trade volume has exceeded $10 billion over the last two years, with a target of reaching $15 billion. He emphasized that cooperation in the defense industry and military fields are essential components of the relationship between Turkey and Romania.

President Erdoğan noted that joint activities conducted under NATO and at the bilateral level contribute to the security and stability of the region. He also stressed the importance of Romania’s support and cooperation in combating terrorist organizations such as PKK and FETO. Erdoğan expressed that the Turkish and Turkish Tatar communities living in Romania serve as a bridge of friendship between the two nations.

Erdoğan provided information about the new arrangement enabling Romanian citizens to travel to Turkey with just an ID card, expressing his belief that this step will strengthen human relations. Additionally, he pointed out the international community’s responsibility in stopping Israel’s attacks on Palestine and ensuring the security of the Palestinian people, expressing confidence in Romania’s support on this issue.

The ongoing war in Ukraine was also discussed during the meeting. Erdoğan stated that since the beginning of the conflict, Turkey has made significant contributions towards ending hostilities, ensuring global food security, and securing navigation safety in the Black Sea. The continuation of efforts to further advance Turkey-Romania relations in line with the interests of both countries was emphasized.
