Republican People’s Party Leader Özgür Özel Highlights Women’s Security Issues in Turkey

Republican People’s Party (CHP) Leader Özgür Özel has raised concerns over the increasing cases of femicides and overall security issues in Turkey. Criticizing the government’s policies, Özel emphasized that the country has become unsafe for all its citizens.

**Women’s Security Concerns**

Özel noted a rise in femicides since 2022, citing alarming statistics: 334 women were murdered in 2022, 315 in 2023, and 325 women in the first ten months of 2024. He stated that these figures highlight the inefficacy of the government’s security policies.

**Istanbul Convention and Accountability**

Accusing those who withdrew from the Istanbul Convention overnight of being responsible for the current situation, Özel argued that the repercussions of this decision would be judged harshly by history. His statements serve as a critical message addressing the safety concerns of women and children in Turkey.
