Proposal to Extend Breastfeeding Leave for Mothers Submitted to Turkish Parliament

Member of Parliament, Selma Aliye Kavaf, has made a significant move concerning the breastfeeding period of children by submitting a legislative proposal to the Turkish Grand National Assembly (TBMM).

Extension of Breastfeeding Leave

The proposal suggests increasing breastfeeding leave to 2 hours per day. This amendment aims to provide mothers with more time to breastfeed their children. It is expected to contribute to higher breastfeeding rates, enhancing the overall health of infants.

Compliance with WHO Recommendations

Additionally, another crucial aspect of the proposal is the extension of the breastfeeding leave until the child is 2 years old. This regulation aims to encourage longer breastfeeding durations in line with recommendations from the World Health Organization (WHO).

This amendment seeks to improve the health and well-being of both mothers and infants, allowing working mothers sufficient time to breastfeed, which is considered a significant enhancement both individually and socially.
