President Erdoğan Reviews Modernization of Historic Savarona Yacht
President Recep Tayyip Erdoğan has inspected the modernization work carried out on the Savarona yacht, a legacy of Gazi Mustafa Kemal Atatürk. The renovation, which lasted approximately 9 months, saw the vessel restored in adherence to its original state.
Erdoğan, accompanied by First Lady Emine Erdoğan, reviewed the extensive renovation work on the Savarona. The review was also attended by Minister of National Defense Yaşar Güler and Commander of the Navy Admiral Ercüment Tatlıoğlu. The modernization process, overseen by the Istanbul Shipyard Command, included the removal of 80 tons of asbestos and repairs to the machine, navigation, and electrical systems.
Additionally, all interior deck plates, as well as fuel and water tanks of the Savarona, were renewed. The yacht’s furniture was restored in line with the original design and received thorough maintenance. Post-renovation, in sea trials, the vessel achieved a speed of 17.2 knots, affirming its safety and operational capabilities.
On August 17, 2023, the Savarona was transferred to the Naval Forces Command under State Status. This significant development has been highlighted as a major current event in reports from the Presidential sources.
