Over 2.6 Million Vehicles Inspected in Turkey: 436,589 Drivers Penalized
The Minister of Interior, Ali Yerlikaya, announced that during the period from August 1 to August 8, 2024, traffic teams from the police and gendarmerie inspected a total of 2,609,216 vehicles and penalized 436,589 drivers.
According to the statement from Minister Yerlikaya:
Between August 1-8, 2024, the police and gendarmerie traffic teams carried out the following:
– A total of 2,609,216 vehicles were inspected.
– 210 drivers were penalized for using unauthorized light or sound warning devices (sirens/strobes).
– 127,384 drivers were fined for speeding violations.
– 26,288 vehicles were found without periodic inspections.
– 17,569 drivers were penalized for not using seat belts.
– 15,151 drivers were caught driving without a valid driver’s license.
– 9,891 vehicles were found without mandatory liability insurance.
In total, 436,589 vehicles/drivers faced penalties due to various violations.
Emphasizing the importance of seat belt usage, Minister Yerlikaya noted that it can reduce fatalities from traffic accidents by 45% and severe injuries by 60%. The safety measure applies to all vehicles, including buses.
