Opposition Criticizes Government Over Worsening Living Standards for Pensioners in Turkey

In Turkey, the living standards of pensioners continue to deteriorate, prompting criticism from opposition party representatives. Cemal Enginyurt, Deputy Chairman of the Democratic Party, emphasized that the current policies towards pensioners are inadequate, resulting in widespread hunger and poverty among the elderly.

Enginyurt sharply criticized the government, stating that terms like “Turkey Century” and “Year of the Pensioner” are merely rhetorical, while in practice, pensioners are forced to live in destitution. Enginyurt highlighted the insufficiency of pension increases and the ineffectiveness of social service policies, noting that the government’s capacity to manage the situation has declined and that this has provoked public outrage.

Continuing his criticisms, Enginyurt declared, “The government is clearly on a downward path. We are faced with an administration that fails to meet its responsibilities instead of improving the conditions for pensioners.” Enginyurt underscored the urgent need for immediate actions to improve the living standards of pensioners.
