Operation ‘KUYU-6’ Leads to the Dismantling of Six Organized Crime Syndicates in Turkey

In a significant move against organized crime, Interior Minister Ali Yerlikaya announced the successful dismantling of six separate organized crime syndicates through meticulously coordinated operations by the police and gendarmerie. These operations, codenamed “KUYU-6,” took place across multiple regions, including Mersin, Istanbul, Antalya, Aydın, Kahramanmaraş, and İzmir.

In a statement shared on his social media account, Minister Yerlikaya disclosed the details:

In Mersin, operations targeted a gang led by fugitive Yüsri Altın, resulting in the apprehension of 10 suspects, with charges including forming a criminal organization, loan sharking, threats, and premeditated injury.

In Istanbul, authorities focused on the syndicate led by overseas fugitive Taha Kutay Karasoy. This operation captured 8 suspects involved in crimes such as threats, property damage, and endangering public safety.

In Antalya, the İll Gendarmerie Command, coordinated by the Serik Chief Public Prosecutor’s Office, arrested 10 suspects linked to a gang led by fugitive Sami Cerit. These individuals are accused of loan sharking, armed threats, and premeditated injury. Notably, they laundered their illicit profits through various sectors, including auto dealerships and restaurants, and coerced victims through threats and violence.

In Aydın, operations led by the Nazilli Chief Public Prosecutor’s Office, in collaboration with the Aydın Provincial Gendarmerie Command, resulted in the detention of 17 suspects under organized crime leader Çetin Gül. These suspects are charged with fraud, leveraging falsified health reports to exploit various social benefits unlawfully.

In Kahramanmaraş, operations led to the arrest of 20 suspects, including 19 who were remanded in custody. This gang, led by Mehmet Aşçı, was implicated in the production and trafficking of illegal substances.

In İzmir, under the coordination of the İzmir Chief Public Prosecutor’s Office and the İzmir Provincial Gendarmerie Command, an operation targeting 13 locations resulted in the apprehension of 10 suspects. Charges range from aggravated robbery, armed threats, premeditated injury, destruction of criminal evidence, endangering public safety, to drug production and trafficking. Notably, the operation revealed the involvement of leader Ercan Çelik.

Minister Yerlikaya praised the efforts of the Republic’s Prosecutors, the Police, and the Gendarmerie, thanking them for their dedication in these successful operations.
