By Haberyaz Oct7,2024

Israel’s military executed an airstrike on the Dahiye district of Beirut, the capital of Lebanon. Several targets were reportedly hit during the attack. This incident is part of a series of assaults on Lebanon that have been ongoing since September 23. Israeli fighter jets targeted Hezbollah positions during the operation.

Loud explosions were heard in Beirut, with local state media reporting at least three distinct blasts. Prior to the attacks, the Israeli military issued evacuation warnings to civilians in the area.

Ground Operations and Restricted Zones

The Israeli military expanded the number of restricted zones in northern Israel to six to support ground operations in southern Lebanon. Any entry or exit from these areas has been strictly prohibited.

The United Nations Peacekeeping Force criticized Israel’s actions in Lebanon, stating that they endangered UN personnel and describing the situation as unacceptable.

Missile Strikes and Casualties

Missiles fired from southern Lebanon targeted the northern Israeli cities of Haifa and Tiberias, injuring at least seven people. Officials from the Red Star of David reported to Israeli state television that six individuals sustained moderate to light injuries from missiles hitting central Haifa. The wounded were transported to Rambam Hospital for treatment.

In Tiberias, an individual was moderately to seriously injured by a missile strike.

Clashes with Hezbollah and Civilian Casualties

The Israeli military has been engaged in controlled clashes with Hezbollah since October 8, 2023. Hundreds of airstrikes have been conducted in southern Lebanon, including cities in the Bekaa and Baalbek regions, since September 23. According to Lebanese authorities, these attacks have resulted in the deaths of 1,411 civilians, including 104 children and 194 women, since September 17. The widespread bombings have displaced hundreds of thousands within the country.

As a wave of migration continues from Beirut and neighboring southern regions toward the capital and northern areas, tens of thousands have reportedly fled to Syria.
