Interior Minister Ali Yerlikaya Announces Arrest of 222 Suspects in Massive “GÜRZ-8” Anti-Terror Operation Across 36 Provinces

In a sweeping anti-terrorism effort, Interior Minister Ali Yerlikaya has announced the arrest of 222 suspects linked to a separatist terrorist organization. Dubbed “GÜRZ-8,” this extensive operation took place across 36 provinces, including major cities such as Istanbul, Ankara, and Izmir.

Coordinated by the General Directorate of Security’s Counter-Terrorism and Intelligence Departments, and conducted by Counter-Terrorism Branch Directorates in various provincial police departments, the operations targeted individuals suspected of various criminal activities:

– Membership in an armed terrorist organization with plans to join rural militant groups.
– Previous involvement in terrorist activities.
– Propagandizing for the terrorist organization on social media.
– Financing terrorism.
– Collaborating and acting as couriers for the terrorist organization.
– Operating within the European branches of the separatist terrorist group.
– Holding confirmed prison sentences and warrants.

The operations led to the seizure of unlicensed firearms, hunting rifles, large sums of foreign currency and Turkish Lira, as well as numerous digital materials and organizational documents.

Minister Yerlikaya stated, “We will not allow any terrorists to have a safe haven. Our security forces will continue their relentless efforts.”
