Historic Step in Urban Transformation in Istanbul

Istanbul Metropolitan Municipality Mayor Ekrem İmamoğlu announced significant support for urban transformation. Under joint projects conducted with the municipality’s KİPTAŞ, financial assistance will be provided to owners of risky buildings and low-income families. For households with a total monthly income below twice the minimum wage, 60% of the building construction costs will be covered by the Istanbul Metropolitan Municipality (IMM). For retirees meeting the same criteria, this rate is set at 65%.

If the household income is less than three times the minimum wage, IMM will cover 40% of the construction costs, and 45% for retirees at that income level. Additionally, approximately 80,000 families living in 6,920 buildings identified as high risk through rapid building inspections will receive an additional 7,000 TL in rental assistance. Retirees in the same category will receive 9,000 TL in rental support.

Temporary rental housing will also be provided to support accommodation during the transformation process, with the first example to be implemented in the Bayrampaşa district. The rapid building inspection service will be expanded under protocols made with district municipalities.

Ekrem İmamoğlu stated that a historic era in urban transformation is being initiated in Istanbul with the support of IMM and the assurance of KİPTAŞ. This initiative aims to make risky buildings in the city safer and to provide citizens with healthier living conditions.
