Contradiction in Government Child Support Policies Draws Criticism
The Ministry of Family and Social Services of Turkey has recently clarified on its official website that families benefiting from social economic support services without having their children taken into protective custody can only receive economic support for up to two children per household.
However, this limitation appears contradictory to the government’s frequent calls for families to have at least five children. Aylin Nazlıaka, the President of the CHP Women’s Branch, highlighted this inconsistency, pointing out the difficulties faced by families who are unable to benefit from the economic support.
In a pointed criticism, Nazlıaka asked, “Now, I ask you, who is responsible for the fate of these children?” Her question underscores the disconnect between the government’s family planning rhetoric and the economic reality faced by many families. This situation casts a spotlight on the insufficiency of economic security for families and the inconsistency in the government’s support policies.
As public debate on the matter continues, there is a growing call for ensuring the necessary support for families to provide a better future for their children.
