CHP’s Yücel Criticizes Minister Şimşek Over Economic Management

Deniz Yücel, Deputy Chairman and Spokesperson of the Republican People’s Party (CHP), has sharply criticized Mehmet Şimşek, the Minister of Treasury and Finance, regarding Turkey’s economic management and the current situation.

Yücel pointed out that Turkey was placed on the grey list in 2011, during Mehmet Şimşek’s tenure as Finance Minister. He argued that an administration that had placed Turkey on the grey list twice could not be considered successful and had not learned necessary lessons. While acknowledging that exiting the grey list is positive news, Yücel emphasized that due to the ongoing economic difficulties, citizens cannot feel the effects of such good news for an extended period.

Yücel also referenced a post made by Şimşek on social media claiming “We succeeded”. According to Yücel, just two hours after the tweet was posted, electricity prices were increased by 38%, showing that the good news had a short lifespan.

Deniz Yücel further remarked that while economic difficulties have always existed, in the current period, the nation is facing hunger, young people are desperate to flee abroad, and the country is housing more than 10 million refugees and illegal immigrants. Yücel criticized the government, particularly Mehmet Şimşek, for presenting these issues as “successes”.

These criticisms are part of the CHP’s strong opposition stance against the current government’s economic policies.
