CHP’s Deniz Yücel Criticizes AKP over Defense Industry Developments
Recent developments in Turkey’s defense industry have remained a hot topic in the public eye. Deniz Yücel, Deputy Chairman and Spokesperson of the Republican People’s Party (CHP), launched criticisms against the AKP and President Recep Tayyip Erdoğan. Yücel condemned the transfer of the National Tank Pallet Factory to Qatari ownership and the opening of military zones for urban development.
In a statement made via social media, Yücel accused the AKP government of approaching defense industry issues with a focus on financial gain. He emphasized that the giveaway of the National Tank Pallet Factory harms the nation’s defense industry needs.
Furthermore, Yücel highlighted that the government has implemented a “Credit Card Limit Tax” to create an additional budget for the defense industry, a move he argued would negatively impact citizens. He claimed that this policy, which has entered economic literature, would further strain the public.
These statements once again spotlight the opposition’s stance amid the many controversial processes involving Turkey’s defense industry. Yücel reiterated their commitment to safeguarding public interests in the defense sector and vowed to continue criticizing AKP’s practices.
