CHP Upholds Secularism and Democracy Amid Constitutional Debates

The Republican People’s Party (CHP) emphasized that Article 4 of the Constitution, which protects the form and qualities of the state, has been present in the 1924, 1961, and 1982 Constitutions. They stressed that this article cannot be abolished based on the demands of reactionaries. CHP Deputy Chairman and Party Spokesperson Deniz Yücel highlighted that secularism is the guarantee of religious freedom, asserting that in Atatürk’s Turkey, no distinction can be made between the Republic and secularism.

Yücel stated that giving up on the articles that protect the Republic and its revolutions would mean abandoning Turkey’s secular and democratic nature. Additionally, he underscored that they will not yield to the demands of individuals with a “Taliban mindset” and announced their stance against marginal groups attempting to manipulate society’s sensitive points for political gain.

These statements reaffirm CHP’s commitment to secularism and democracy, demonstrating the party’s dedication to its values.
