CHP Opposes Euthanasia Clause in AKP’s Animal Protection Law Amendment

The proposed amendment to the Animal Protection Law by the AKP, currently under deliberation in the Grand National Assembly of Turkey, has faced staunch opposition regarding its euthanasia provision. The euthanasia clause is not accepted, with significant criticism arising from concerns that it would harm the life rights of stray animals.

Burhanettin Bulut, Deputy Chairman responsible for Public and Media Relations for the CHP, emphasized the sanctity of life for every living being, stating, “Every being has the right to life. We defend life.”

During parliamentary discussions, the clause proposing euthanasia was criticized for potentially damaging the life rights of street animals. Bulut argued for the withdrawal of the bill, asserting, “We must stand against such practices with an understanding that defends the right to life.”
