CHP Criticizes Ministry of Education Over Student Safety After Tragic Incident in Soma

Deniz Yücel, Deputy Chairman and Spokesperson of the Republican People’s Party (CHP), has sharply criticized the Ministry of Education and raised concerns about work accidents and student safety.

Recently, Alperen Enes Ural, a 17-year-old intern working under the Vocational Training Center (MESEM) in Soma, tragically lost his life due to a workplace accident. Yücel responded to this tragedy by emphasizing the lack of adequate safety measures for children. He stated, “The Ministry of Education is failing to take precautions against injuries or even deaths in workplace accidents, just as it provides medieval education to our children.”

Yücel highlighted that while the MESEM projects aim to develop students’ vocational skills, student safety is being neglected in the process. He questioned the intent behind the projects, asking, “Are you equipping children with skills, or are you providing cheap labor to employers?” He argued that the accidents indicate significant shortcomings in these programs.

CHP Spokesperson Deniz Yücel called for the incident not to be covered up and urged for immediate measures to prevent such accidents from recurring. He also inquired, “How many children have died due to workplace accidents while working under the MESEM program?” and emphasized the need for accountability from the authorities.

Yücel stated that the tragic incident in Soma and similar events highlight the necessity for responsible individuals to exercise greater caution in fulfilling their duties. The source of this news is CHP Deputy Chairman and Spokesperson Deniz Yücel.
