CHP Criticizes MHP’s Stance on Sinan Ateş Case and Journalists’ Intimidation

The Deputy Chairman and Spokesperson of the Republican People’s Party (CHP) criticized the recent statements made by Edip Semih Yalçın, the Deputy Chairman of the Nationalist Movement Party (MHP). In the statement, it was noted that Yalçın displayed an intolerant attitude towards the criticisms of the opposition press following MHP’s success in the local elections on March 31.

The CHP Deputy Chairman claimed that Yalçın is attempting to influence judicial authorities regarding the Sinan Ateş case and that his actions targeting journalists aim to mislead justice and misinform the public. Additionally, he stated that past political events have been distorted to accuse their party unjustly.

The CHP Deputy Chairman emphasized that one of the suspects in Sinan Ateş’s murder was found in the house of a former MHP deputy, yet Yalçın ignored this fact and attempted to absolve MHP, which he claimed hurt public conscience.

Furthermore, the Deputy Chairman pointed out that CHP’s stance against the coup attempt on the night of July 15th was clearly demonstrated by their leader’s speech in the Turkish Grand National Assembly (TBMM), and accused Yalçın of overlooking this reality. He also highlighted the inconsistencies between the official statements of MHP and the rhetoric of the People’s Alliance on the events of that night.

Warning that Yalçın’s approach of targeting journalists could have dangerous consequences, the CHP Deputy Chairman stressed that such threats and pressures are unacceptable. He added that if MHP does not issue a statement on this matter, they would consider Yalçın’s statements as the official stance of MHP.

In conclusion, the Deputy Chairman asserted that Yalçın’s aggressive attitude regarding the Sinan Ateş case cannot escape justice and that the truth will eventually come out. He expressed full confidence that justice will be served for Sinan Ateş’s family.
