CHP Criticizes Government’s Economic Policies for Students

CHP Deputy Chairman and Party Spokesperson Deniz Yücel harshly criticized the government’s economic policies towards students. In his statement, Yücel highlighted the inadequacy of KYK scholarships and high housing fees, stating, “The monthly KYK scholarship provided to students is 2,000 lira, but the housing fee is 6,000 lira. How do you explain this injustice?”

Yücel criticized the government for being far from meeting the basic needs of students, saying, “Is the money you cut from workers, laborers, and retirees not enough? Did you also set your eyes on the meager scholarships of students? Have the incomes of these children’s families increased by more than 300%?” he questioned.

Accusing government officials of spending state resources on their luxurious lifestyles, Yücel said, “They travel in the latest model cars, stay in the most luxurious hotels, and say ‘there can be no austerity on prestige’ while our young people are crushed in poverty. Is this justice?” he remarked.

Yücel pointed out that the economic crisis is being unfairly burdened on students, stating, “I condemn an administration that tries to place the burden of the economic crisis on students and approaches essential rights like housing and nutrition with profit motives.”

Expressing the intent to end the AKP government’s neglectful approach towards low-income citizens, Yücel declared, “We will put an end to AKP’s authoritarian mindset that ignores and oppresses students, workers, civil servants, tradespeople, and retirees!”
