CHP Accuses Small Partner of People’s Alliance of Polarizing Society Over Can Atalay
The Deputy Chairman and Spokesperson of the Republican People’s Party (CHP), Deniz Yücel, has accused the minor partner of the People’s Alliance of attempting to divide and polarize society through Can Atalay. In a recent statement, Yücel emphasized that Can Atalay is a respected lawyer who has fought for justice in high-profile cases such as the Gezi Park protests, the Soma mine disaster, and the Çorlu train accident.
Yücel highlighted that Atalay is not an advocate for companies or contractors that endanger human lives for high profits, but rather a defender of the rights of oppressed and exploited workers. Elected as a Member of Parliament with the legitimate votes of the people of Hatay, Atalay is being deprived of his freedom and is essentially held captive despite Constitutional Court rulings, Yücel asserted.
Furthermore, Yücel argued that labeling Atalay as a terrorist or traitor is either malicious or a sign of losing one’s rational faculties. “Can Atalay has no actions that can be associated with terrorism or treason,” stated Yücel.
