Bitlis Mothers Discover Their City Through “Let’s Get to Know Our Province” Project

In a significant initiative aimed at enriching the community fabric, Bitlis mothers are exploring their city through the “Let’s Get to Know Our Province” project. This program, launched by the Bitlis Governorship, offers mothers the opportunity to see, learn, and appreciate the historical and cultural heritage of their city.

The “Let’s Get to Know Our Province” project, initiated by the Bitlis Governorship, is designed to help mothers strengthen their neighborhood ties and foster social connections. The project also aims to introduce mothers to Bitlis and its districts’ millennia-old historical and cultural values through expert-guided tours.

As part of the project, 30 women from Hüsrevpaşa, a neighborhood in Bitlis, were taken on a tour to see significant sites such as Nemrut Crater Lake and the historic district of Ahlat. The tour began with a visit to Nemrut Crater Lake, followed by a trip to historic Ahlat. After a lunch at Ahlat Vocational and Technical Anatolian High School Practice Hotel, Bitlis Governor Erol Karaömeroğlu, his wife Filiz Karaömeroğlu, and Ahlat District Governor Batuhan Bingöl presented various gifts to the women and their children.

Governor Karaömeroğlu spent some time chatting with the mothers by the shore of Lake Van in Ahlat. As part of their inaugural tour, the mothers visited the Abdurrahman Gazi Tomb, Ahlat Seljuk Cemetery, and the Ahlat Museum.

Tour participant Gamze Yeşilkuş expressed her gratitude, saying, “We participated in this tour as part of the ‘Let’s Get to Know Our Province’ project. It’s a wonderful initiative. We thank our Governor of Bitlis and his wife Filiz Hanımefendi, as well as everyone involved.”

Nuriye Sayılgan noted that she saw some places in Bitlis for the first time, extending her thanks to those who made the project possible.

The Chairwoman of the Kızılay Bitlis Women’s Branch added, “We are touring Nemrut Crater Lake, Ahlat Seljuk Cemetery, Abdurrahman Gazi Tomb, and our museum as part of the ‘Let’s Get to Know Our Province’ project. It’s a very productive project, and we thank everyone involved.”
