AI-Supported Speed Detection Systems Launched in Turkey

By Haberyaz Jun29,2024

In a groundbreaking initiative spearheaded by the General Directorate of Security and the Presidency of Defense Industries, AI-supported speed violation detection systems produced domestically have been put into use.

As part of the Presidency of Defense Industries project, Radarsan Radar Technologies Inc. has manufactured the domestic and national speed detection device, which was integrated with a speed violation software developed by the General Directorate of Security to create the “Mobile Speed Detection System.”

The new AI-supported next-generation mobile speed detection device aims to conduct traffic inspections more effectively and reduce external dependence.

No Need for Operators

The next-generation mobile speed detection device can read plate numbers, vehicle types, and speed data of all vehicles in all weather conditions, day and night, without the need for any operator.

The AI-detected speed, photo, and crossing time of each vehicle are sent to the PolNet network of the General Directorate of Security. The new-generation mobile speed detection device instantly reports data of violating vehicles to traffic teams.

6,551 Speed Violations Detected

From June 14, 2024, and during the 9-day Eid al-Adha holiday, the new-generation mobile speed detection device was deployed in five pilot cities: Ankara, Izmir, Bursa, Balıkesir, and Niğde. In inspections carried out to date, 6,551 speed violations have been detected.
