AFAD Earthquake Simulation Truck Arrives in Kars for Public Awareness
The AFAD Earthquake Simulation Truck has arrived in Kars, parking in front of the Government Office. Here, citizens are given a realistic earthquake experience, simulating past seismic events in Turkey.
Governor Ziya Polat visited the Earthquake Simulation Truck and received information from authorities. During a simulation of a magnitude 7 earthquake, he demonstrated the safety precautions participants should take, including taking cover under a table. Governor Polat emphasized that Turkey is in an earthquake-prone region and highlighted that education and precautionary measures are key to being prepared.
Reflecting on past tragedies, Governor Polat stated, “On the anniversary of the August 17 Marmara earthquake, we honor our earthquake martyrs. We also remember the victims of the February 6 earthquake last year, which was centered in Kahramanmaraş and affected 11 provinces. We live in an earthquake-prone country, but building strong infrastructure is more important than the size of fault lines. If we don’t build robust structures, we will lose lives during earthquakes.”
Polat added, “Since the 1999 earthquake, our government has made significant progress. We have introduced changes in regulations and laws to combat disasters better. With ongoing education, we are more prepared than ever. This was evident during the February 6 earthquake. May God protect our state and people from harm. On the anniversary of the August 17 earthquake, our Ministry and AFAD sent the Earthquake Simulation Truck to our city to raise awareness, allowing our citizens to experience the sensation of an earthquake firsthand.”
