AK Party’s Ömer Çelik Criticizes Özgür Özel’s Remarks on the President
In a recent statement, AK Party Deputy Chairman and Party Spokesperson Ömer Çelik criticized CHP Chairman Özgür Özel’s remarks about the President, labeling them as political ignorance and disrespect.
Ömer Çelik emphasized that if Özgür Özel wants to make accusations such as “dictatorship” and “coup-mongering,” he should reflect on his own political stance from the past. He highlighted the necessity for Özel to address his party’s historical “political records” concerning every military intervention since 1960.
Çelik suggested that Özgür Özel attacked the President to divert attention from doubts within his own party about his leadership credentials. He accused Özel of continuing the battle with politics of lies and slander, urging him instead to focus on the criticisms from his party colleagues.
Moreover, in response to Özel’s criticism of the President’s calls for unity and solidarity under the “Century of Turkey” vision, Çelik pointed out that even within Özel’s own party, such unity is lacking. He argued that it would be unrealistic to expect Özel to understand the President’s vision.
Çelik concluded by asserting that they will steadfastly pursue the “Century of Turkey” objectives set by the President and leave behind those with no political vision, entangled in internal conflicts.
