Turkish and French Parliamentary Committees Discuss Key Bilateral and International Issues

The Turkish Grand National Assembly’s Foreign Affairs Committee held a significant meeting with the French Senate’s Committee on Foreign Affairs, Defence, and Armed Forces. The discussions were led by Christian Cambon, the French Senate President’s Special Representative for International Relations.

During the meeting, Turkish-French bilateral relations and Turkey-EU relations were key topics of discussion. Critical international issues including Israel’s ongoing attacks, the war in Ukraine, the Cyprus issue, counter-terrorism efforts, illegal immigration, and human trafficking were also on the agenda.

Both parties agreed on advancing relations between Turkey and France within a positive framework. Emphasis was placed on deepening cooperation in areas such as economy, trade, investment, culture, education, and tourism. It was underscored that instead of unilateral decisions, open channels of dialogue and progress based on mutual interests should be maintained.

Particularly, a call was made to halt Israel’s genocide in Gaza. It was highlighted that the international community must take more responsibility to end the attacks in the Middle East and resolve these issues through a two-state solution model.

The significant role of parliamentary diplomacy in improving bilateral relations was noted. It was expressed that dialogues between parliamentarians should be utilized more to produce effective solutions to international and regional problems.
