World Celebrates Decent Work Day by Highlighting Workers’ Rights

By Haberyaz Oct8,2024

On October 7, the world celebrates Decent Work Day, an initiative spearheaded by the International Labour Organization (ILO) to emphasize the importance of decent work.

Decent work is defined as employment that meets the needs of individuals, enabling them to lead a dignified life. This concept incorporates job security, respect for human rights, safe working conditions, and fair wages.

The global challenges people face in their work lives further underscore the significance of decent work. Elevating living standards for workers, ensuring equal opportunities, and respecting human dignity are critical components for actualizing this concept.

This year’s Decent Work Day highlights the fundamental message of protecting workers’ rights and creating healthy work environments. Employees should not only be able to earn their livelihoods but also have access to basic rights such as safety and respect in their workplaces.
