Kazakhstan Moves Toward Nuclear Power with Positive Public Referendum

Kazakhstan is taking a significant step towards building a nuclear power plant, guided by public opinion. In a nationwide referendum, citizens were asked to vote on the establishment of a nuclear energy facility. Early data indicates that an overwhelming majority has voted “yes.”

The referendum process began at 7:00 AM local time and concluded at 8:00 PM. A total of 10,323 polling stations were set up for the referendum, and 7,820,918 out of 12,244,683 registered voters (63.87%) participated. Exit polls suggest that 69.8% of voters are in favor of constructing the nuclear power plant. Additionally, a survey conducted by the ruling Amanat party’s Public Policy Institute shows that 72.3% of participants voted “yes.” The Eurasian Integration Institute’s poll also reported a similar result, with a 71.8% “yes” vote.

The final results of the referendum are expected to be announced by the Central Election Commission of Kazakhstan within seven days. This development is considered a critical step for the nation’s energy future.
