End of School Staff Application Raises Hygiene Concerns

By Haberyaz Sep28,2024

CHP Deputy Chairman and Party Spokesperson Deniz Yücel announced the termination of the school staff application, known as “service” or “janitor,” which ended with the rise of the AKP to power. Yücel mentioned that personnel were assigned from İŞKUR following this change, noting that due to one-year assignments, staff who worked at schools did not return the following year. This, Yücel emphasized, weakened the sense of attachment and belonging to the school.

Claims of Savings and Hygiene Issues

Yücel criticized the government, alleging that to fix the economy it damaged through mismanagement, it started saving from school cleanliness and safety. He argued that instead of defending the right of children to study in a hygienic environment, Minister of Education Yusuf Tekin chose to make cuts in this area. Yücel suggested that the money spent on agreements with sects should be allocated for hygiene.

Obstacles for Mayors

Yücel brought attention to the cleanliness issues in schools, stating that the Ministry of Education failed to fulfill its responsibility to keep schools clean. He revealed that mayors, who dispatch cleaning teams to ensure a hygienic environment in schools, faced resistance from school principals, allegedly due to pressure from the Ministry.

Consequences and Responsibility

Yücel stressed that hygiene is a right and that cutting costs on cleanliness is unacceptable. He declared that if children’s health is compromised, Minister Yusuf Tekin would be responsible. Emphasizing the importance of hygienic educational environments, Yücel underlined the need to prevent diseases in schools and protect children’s health.
