CHP Extends Support Amidst Ongoing Fire in Izmir

The Deputy Chairman and Spokesperson of the Republican People’s Party (CHP), Deniz Yücel, visited the areas affected by the fire that has been raging for two days in Izmir, threatening the districts of Karşıyaka, Bayraklı, and Çiğli. During the visit, Yücel was accompanied by Deputy Chairman Murat Bakan, Izmir MP Ednan Aslan, and Provincial President Şenol Aslanoğlu. The delegation met with residents affected by the fire and conducted on-site inspections.

Yücel stated that the fire has been largely brought under control, with only a few hotspots remaining, and cooling efforts are ongoing. He extended his gratitude to the Izmir Metropolitan Fire Department, AFAD, and the General Directorate of Forestry teams, who have been at the forefront of the firefighting efforts, and expressed his thanks to all those who have provided support.

“Our only solace is that there were no casualties. Today is a day to unite and show solidarity. We will heal the wounds together,” Yücel said. He also emphasized that accountability will be sought for the inadequacies in firefighting efforts and the failure to prevent the fire from reaching residential areas.

The news is based on field visits and statements made during the event.
