Major Crackdown on Organized Crime Syndicate in Adana and Other Provinces

In a significant operation named “KUYU-17,” coordinated by the Gendarmerie in Adana and three other provinces, Interior Minister Ali Yerlikaya announced the successful dismantling of an organized crime syndicate led by Ahmet Kurt. Minister Yerlikaya detailed the operation, underscoring their resolute stance against organized crime.

15 Suspects Detained

The coordinated efforts between the Yumurtalık Chief Public Prosecutor’s Office and the Gendarmerie General Command’s Anti-smuggling and Organized Crime Department resulted in the capture of 15 suspects, including the crime syndicate leader, Ahmet Kurt. The operation spanned multiple locations, including Adana, Istanbul, Malatya, and Şanlıurfa.

Crimes and Organizational Structure

The apprehended suspects were found to be involved in various organized criminal activities, such as aggravated extortion, property damage, intentional injury, armed threats, and violations of Law No. 6136. Investigations revealed that the syndicate held illicit courts where they charged victims, forcibly transferred movable and immovable property, and collected commissions through threats, coercion, and violence.

Seized Items

During the operations, gendarmes seized shotguns, numerous debt ledgers, sales agreements signed under duress, and coerced petitions from victims relinquishing their rights.

Commitment Against Organized Crime

Minister Yerlikaya reiterated their unwavering commitment to combating organized crime, stating, “We will dismantle organized crime syndicates and bring them to justice, regardless of their size. Our operations will persist tirelessly, whether at dawn or dusk.” The Minister applauded the Yumurtalık Chief Public Prosecutor’s Office and the Gendarmerie teams conducting the operations, emphasizing the nation’s prayers for the safety forces.
