Turkey Advances Defense Industry with Strategic ‘Steel Dome Project’

By Haberyaz Aug7,2024

Turkey has undergone a significant transformation in its defense industry over the past twenty years. This shift has been primarily driven by prioritizing domestic and national defense projects. During today’s meeting, the Presidency of Defense Industries Executive Committee discussed and approved several crucial projects, including the ‘Steel Dome Project.’

The Steel Dome Project aims to integrate layered air defense systems, sensors, and weapons under a network structure, creating a common air picture and relaying it to operational centers in real-time. Additionally, the project targets the provision of AI-supported information to decision-makers.

Vice President Cevdet Yılmaz expressed his blessings on the historic decision, stating that the nation continues to progress with more ambitious goals in defense. Yılmaz emphasized their commitment to using all diplomatic means for regional and global stability and peace while ensuring that the country becomes more robust against any threats.

The domestic defense industry plays a vital role not only in terms of security but also in reducing imports and achieving high-value production for export goals. Last year’s exports reached $5.5 billion, and the target for this year is to achieve $7 billion. Yılmaz extended his gratitude to everyone involved in these efforts.
