Minimum Wage Eroded by Inflation, Urgent Increase Needed, CHP Official Warns

By Haberyaz Jul30,2024

A new report sheds light on the deteriorating financial situation of minimum wage earners in Turkey. Burhanettin Bulut, the Deputy Chairman of the Republican People’s Party (CHP) responsible for Public Relations and Media Affairs, emphasized that the minimum wage has significantly eroded due to escalating inflation.

The minimum wage, according to Bulut, has fallen below even the hunger threshold. He highlighted that the hunger threshold for a family of four currently exceeds the minimum wage by a staggering 2,232 Turkish Lira, now standing at 19,234 TL. Furthermore, the poverty line has surged to 62,652 TL, underscoring the pressure these challenging economic conditions are placing on the populace.

Bulut urgently called for an increase in the minimum wage, asserting that the current economic conditions render the existing wage insufficient to meet basic needs. He stressed that immediate financial adjustments are essential for individuals to live with dignity.
