CHP’s Deputy Chairman Criticizes Mayor Tanju Özcan for Remarks Against Former Leader

Bolu Mayor Tanju Özcan’s critical remarks on social media targeting the previous leader of the Republican People’s Party (CHP), Kemal Kılıçdaroğlu, have been publicly criticized by the party’s Deputy Chairman and Spokesperson, Deniz Yücel. Yücel stated that Özcan’s comments surpassed the boundaries of criticism, becoming hurtful and offensive.

Yücel emphasized that the CHP is a party committed to the values of the Republic, the principles, and reforms of Atatürk, and is made up of people who love their country and nation. He also asserted that CHP members of parliament are devoted not to individuals but primarily to the Constitution, the people, and the ideas the party promotes.

Deniz Yücel stressed that all opinions can be freely expressed as long as they remain within the bounds of criticism and respect. However, he made it clear that they do not endorse posts about the former leader that exceed these limits, regardless of who makes them or their position.

Yücel reminded the public that Kemal Kılıçdaroğlu had previously refuted the controversial comments about him and added that attempts to escalate the issue are not seen as well-intentioned. Party officials will address this matter within the relevant party committees.
