Minister of Interior, Mr. Ali Yerlikaya, announced that the General Directorate of Meteorology has issued an Orange warning for severe flooding, inundation, lightning, landslide, and hail for Samsun and Ordu on Sunday, July 7, 2024. Citizens have been notified via SMS to take precautions.
34 Citizens Evacuated in Samsun
In Samsun’s Ayvacık, Çarşamba, Salıpazarı, Terme, and Tekkeköy districts, heavy rains led to 60 emergency calls. As a result, 34 citizens stranded by the rising waters were evacuated to secure areas. For flood intervention in Samsun, 460 vehicles, 656 personnel, 25 motor pumps, and 7 diver pumps were deployed.
In Ordu’s Ünye, İkizce, and Çaybaşı districts, intense rainfall resulted in 18 emergency calls. Tragically, an 83-year-old citizen in Çayır Mahallesi in Çaybaşı district was swept away by floodwaters and lost his life. The efforts in Ordu involved 695 personnel and 284 vehicles.
In Muş’s Malazgirt district in Bahçeköy village, another citizen lost their life due to severe rains. The individual succumbed to floodwaters in this tragic incident.
Minister Yerlikaya expressed his gratitude to AFAD personnel, municipalities, police and gendarmerie teams, DSİ, and highway workers, as well as health personnel who responded to the flood disaster. He offered condolences to the families of those who lost their lives.
Highlighting the importance of adhering to warnings regarding potential floods, inundations, and landslides due to heavy rains, Minister Yerlikaya reminded citizens that the 112 Emergency Call Center is operational 24/7. He prayed for protection from all disasters for the country and its people.
