Data Breach Allegations on Syrian Refugees Under Temporary Protection: Investigations Launched

Interior Minister Ali Yerlikaya has made statements regarding the allegations of information leaks concerning Syrians under temporary protection. Minister Yerlikaya ascertained that the shared data predates September 8, 2022. He announced the initiation of both judicial and administrative investigations concerning the matter.

Minister Yerlikaya attended the “Peace of Turkey Meeting” held at the Kayseri AFAD Provincial Directorate. The meeting featured prominent attendees including Atilla Toros, President of the Directorate General of Migration Management; Gökmen Çiçek, Governor of Kayseri; Hulusi Akar, Chairman of the National Defense Commission of the Grand National Assembly of Turkey and AK Party Kayseri Deputy; AK Party Kayseri Deputies Ayşe Böhürler, Şaban Çopuroğlu, and Bayar Özsoy; MHP Kayseri Deputy Baki Ersoy; General Commander of the Gendarmerie Arif Çetin; General Director of Security Erol Ayyıldız; and representatives from relevant units.

855 Arrests in Kayseri, 1065 Nationwide

Following an assessment of the past year’s data on terror, public order, irregular migration, organized crime, drugs, and criminal activities, Minister Yerlikaya evaluated incidents in Kayseri. He stated, “Unfortunately, there were social incidents in Kayseri that we did not wish to see. As a result of these incidents, 855 individuals in Kayseri were detained. Thirteen of them were arrested, and judicial control decisions were issued for 145 of them. Of the 855 individuals detained in Kayseri, 468 have judicial records for 50 different crimes. These crimes include migrant smuggling, intentional injury, extortion, theft, sexual abuse, threats, insults, drug offenses, property damage, fraud, and blackmail. Nationwide, a total of 1065 individuals were detained for similar incidents. Twenty-eight of them were arrested, and judicial control decisions were issued for 187 of them.”
