Interior Minister Ali Yerlikaya Emphasizes Importance of Seat Belts During 9-Day Eid al-Adha Holiday: “Let’s Not Neglect Seat Belts”

Interior Minister Ali Yerlikaya highlighted the importance of wearing seat belts throughout the 9-day Eid al-Adha holiday and issued a caution to drivers returning from the holidays, urging, “Let’s not neglect to wear seat belts.”

Minister Yerlikaya took to social media to share a video of an incident where passengers involved in an accident in Kütahya had been made to wear seat belts by Eskişehir’s Provincial Traffic Inspection Branch teams approximately an hour before the accident.

Emphasizing that traffic teams have been informing drivers throughout the holiday and will continue to do so, Minister Yerlikaya reiterated the importance of wearing seat belts in vehicles and during bus journeys.

He noted that traffic police also conduct seat belt checks on buses, citing a striking example on the Bursa-Antalya route.

Minister Yerlikaya relayed that traffic teams had warned passengers about the lifesaving nature of seat belts. He stated:

“The bus unfortunately veered off the road in Kütahya. However, our passengers were wearing their seat belts. Five citizens sustained minor injuries and were discharged after receiving treatment. The passengers said that traffic police checked their bus at the exit of Eskişehir and warned them about wearing seat belts.”

“Dear drivers, the return from the Eid al-Adha holiday continues. We’re experiencing heavy traffic on our roads. Please, follow traffic rules. Let’s not neglect to wear seat belts. Put some distance between you and your mobile phone. Let’s heed these warnings to ensure the journey ends with a celebration.”
