Juneteenth Celebration Hosted at Adana Consulate

In a significant event marking the historic Juneteenth holiday, the Adana Consulate recently hosted a reception highlighting this special day for Americans. Juneteenth, observed annually on June 19th, commemorates the announcement of freedom for enslaved people in Texas. Since 2021, this day has been recognized as a federal holiday in the United States.

The event at the Adana Consulate was further enriched by a performance from the Titan Gospel Choir from İncirlik Air Base, who sang “Lift Every Voice and Sing.” The reception began with an opening speech by Leola Calzolai-Stewart, the director of “The American Diplomat,” a film about three pioneering African American diplomats.

Attendees also had the opportunity to explore a photo exhibition depicting influential black diplomats in the United States. This special American holiday reflects on the experiences and history of Black Americans. We extend our gratitude to all guests who joined the celebration and to everyone who sent their messages of support.

This news was compiled from the official accounts of the U.S. Embassy Ankara.
