Turkish Vice President Cevdet Yılmaz Meets with EU’s Enlargement Commissioner Oliver Varhelyi

Turkey’s Vice President Cevdet Yılmaz held a meeting with European Union Commissioner for Neighbourhood and Enlargement, Oliver Varhelyi, at the Presidential Complex.

During the discussion, expectations were expressed regarding the advancement of relations in a tangible and positive framework during Hungary’s presidency of the European Union, which will begin in July.

Yılmaz emphasized Turkey’s determination as a candidate country to reinvigorate its EU membership process and advance through mutual tangible steps. He stressed that the EU’s clear and decisive political will shown to other candidate countries should also be demonstrated to Turkey under equal and non-discriminatory conditions.

Furthermore, the importance of taking action in vital areas such as increasing trade, updating the customs union, and facilitating visa procedures was highlighted, urging a more positive approach.

Besides bilateral relations, regional issues were also addressed during the meeting. Particular attention was directed towards establishing a ceasefire in Gaza urgently and ensuring uninterrupted humanitarian aid to the region. There was an emphasis on increased efforts by international institutions, particularly the European Union, in this regard.

Vice President Yılmaz thanked Commissioner Varhelyi and his delegation for their visit and the ongoing cooperation.
