CHP Vice Chairman Criticizes Constitutional Court’s Recent Decisions and Delays

CHP Vice Chairman, Burhanettin Bulut, has made statements regarding the recent decisions of the Constitutional Court (AYM). Bulut evaluated the court’s decision to annul the presidential authority of President Recep Tayyip Erdoğan to change and appoint the Central Bank governor prematurely, along with the decree law (KHK) and the law provision concerning university rectors being appointed by the President, and the provision for the highest salary of state officials to be paid to the General Manager of TRT.

Bulut questioned the timing of the court’s decisions, saying, “We applied to the AYM for these unlawful acts 6 years ago. Why did the Constitutional Court make this decision now? Where were they until today?”

He further emphasized the importance of these decisions in terms of the rule of law and the protection of constitutional order, stating, “The decisions made by the AYM are certainly significant in terms of upholding the rule of law and protecting the constitutional order. However, the fact that these decisions have been made after such a long time undermines the confidence in the rule of law.”

Bulut highlighted the need for the court’s decision-making process to be expedited.
